Sicilian Rice

Sicilian Rice is a local specialty of Saga City, served in approximately 30 restaurants throughout the area. The dish consists of hot rice topped with sweet seasoned meat (usually beef), fresh vegetables such as onions, lettuce, and cucumber, and a generous topping of mayonnaise.

The origin of the name “Sicilian” remains uncertain. One popular theory suggests that the colors of the ingredients—green lettuce, red tomato, and white boiled egg—mirror the Italian flag. Another theory links its creation to the popularity of the film The Godfather, which is set in Sicily and was released around the time the dish is believed to have originated.
