Shimabara is a water town with many springs gushing from underground. One area is arranged as a sightseeing spot for this clear water. The water gutters, where carp swim, are set along the paths.
Seiryu-Tei
This is the tourism center in Shimabara, located in what is called the “carp-swimming area.” It provides tourism information and displays Shimabara specialty goods. In the precinct, there is a pond into which spring water flows, with many colorful carp swimming.

Shimeiso Spring Water Garden
This house was built around the beginning of the 20th century as a villa for Mr. Ito, a doctor. It has a good view in all four directions, which is why it was named Shimeiso, literally meaning “four clear views.” The garden has a pond always full of water from the spring. You can enter the house and appreciate the beautiful garden from the inside.
