In Unzen, the view from Nita Pass (the second observatory) is excellent. You can see Shimabara, the Ariake Sea, and Amakusa all at once. From there, you can also see Mt. Heisei Shinzan, the new peak formed in the Heisei era. This reminds Japanese people of the Shimabara Disaster caused by volcanic eruptions.

You can reach a higher point from the road by taking the ropeway to enjoy an even better view.
