オモシロ英語雑学 今回の trivia は、英語のサイトを巡って、集めてみました。結構、似たようなものばかりでした。どこかに元のサイトがあるのかもしれません。英文とその訳を載せてみたいと思います。英語という言語に関するものが並びました。語源とか意外な意味とか俗語とか、日本人が食いつきそうな雑学はまた次の記事に載せたいと思います。

SWIMSは上下をひっくり返してもSWIMSになる。そんな単語をアンビグラムと呼ぶ。

The word “bookkeeper” (along with its associate “bookkeeping”) is the only unhyphenated English word with three consecutive double letters. Other such words, like “sweet-toothed”, require a hyphen to be readily readable.

解説 「そうかと言って、あのthat が指しているあのthat があの that が指している同じあの that ではないということは本当である」という訳。1 for all that という挿入句、「そうかと言って」 2 that節を作る接続詞のthat 3 代名詞「あの」 4 that という単語 5 関係代名詞のthat 6 代名詞「あの」 7 that という単語
大体は、六個並ぶの文だが、本場は違う。for all that という挿入句を入れて、七個にしている。
