Sightseeing Spots in Kunisaki Peninsula

Kumano Magaibutu

The Kumano Magaibutsu are Buddha statues carved into the cliff face. From the base of Nokogiriyama Mountain, you ascend approximately 90 meters up roughly hewn stone steps to reach two large Buddha statues carved into the rock. These depict Fudō Myō-ō and Dainichi Nyorai, each standing about eight meters tall. They are believed to have been carved in the late 12th century.

Showa-Town Area

This area is designed to recreate a town from the Showa Era. You can explore the interiors of old houses and an elementary school, and buy dagashi—the classic Japanese cheap snacks that were popular among children at the time. It feels like stepping back in time.
