The view from Nita Pass (the second observatory) in Unzen is truly exceptional. From this vantage point, you can see Shimabara, the Ariake Sea, and Amakusa all at once. The vista also includes Mt. Heisei Shinzan, the new peak formed during the 1990-1995 eruption. For many Japanese, this sight serves as a sobering reminder of the destructive power of volcanoes and the tragic Shimabara disaster.

You can reach a higher elevation from the road by taking the ropeway, which offers an even more spectacular and expansive view of the surrounding landscape.
