This place is renowned as an excellent spot for cherry blossom viewing and has been selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Sites.

It was formerly the site of the castle of the Ōmura Domain during the samurai era.

The cherry tree species here is the Ōmurazakura (Prunus serrulata ‘Omurazakura’), which is designated as a Japanese National Natural Monument.

While typical cherry blossoms feature five sepals and five petals, the Ōmurazakura is distinct. It has approximately ten sepals, and its petals number at least 60, sometimes reaching as many as 200, creating a remarkably full and luxurious blossom.
