The legend about the origin has it that the great monk Gyōki came here about 1,200 years ago and built an altar for a Jizō statue. You can see about 2,000 statues of Jizō Bosatsu here. This site remains an example of the historical synthesis of Shinto and Buddhism. It is said that by visiting this site and praying, any kind of wish—such as for academic success, longevity, or commercial profit—can be fulfilled.
It features a small worship tunnel called Ichinen-dō and a sacred, large ginkgo tree.
