Aoi Aso Shrine
Aoi Aso Shrine was founded in 806. The current structures were completed in 1610 after three years of construction under Nagatsune Sagara. Their architecture reflects the style of that period, which is why five buildings—including the main hall and front gate—have been designated as National Treasures. These two structures are the only thatched-roof (kayabuki) buildings designated as National Treasures in Japan. In front of the gate, a pond contains white water lilies that bloom in June.
