Sengan-en Garden was originally the villa of the Shimazu family, the daimyō of Satsuma Province. It is one of Japan’s most iconic feudal lord gardens, offering visitors views of Sakurajima Volcano, historic residences where the lords stayed, and local Kagoshima specialties such as Jumbo Yaki. The garden complex also includes a museum displaying artifacts from early Western-influenced factories and a workshop where Satsuma cut glass is produced.

Notable features to see at Sengan-en include decorative nail covers, a historic reverberatory furnace, and an early hydroelectric power generator..
